Who are we?
We are based in the Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) area, and we are a non-profit organization registered with the State of Texas.
Our mission is to inspire middle and high school students to excel in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Environment Matters by nurturing their critical and analytical thinking skills.
Dr. Yosef Khan
President and Board Member
Dr. Yosef Khan is public health professional who currently serves as the National Director of Health Informatics and Analytics at the American Heart Association and as an adjunct professor of Epidemiology at the University of Texas Arlington and Baylor University. His educational background includes a medical degree, a Master’s in Public Health, and a dual Ph.D. in Epidemiology and Health Informatics. His work focuses on developing disease surveillance systems and understanding the trends and patterns of disease transmission.
Dr. Ali Butt
Treasurer and Board Member
Ali is a Professor of Computer Science (and ECE by courtesy) and Associate Department Head for Faculty Development in CS@VT. He is an ACM Distinguished Member. He received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Purdue University in 2006. He is a recipient of an NSF CAREER Award (2008), IBM Faculty Awards (2008, 2015), a VT College of Engineering (COE) Dean's award for "Outstanding New Assistant Professor" (2009), an IBM Shared University Research Award (2009), and NetApp Faculty Fellowships (2011, 2015).

Dr. Basheer Ahmed
Board Member
M. Basheer Ahmed M.D. is a psychiatrist, practicing in DFW Metropolis for over 40 years. He is the former professor of psychiatry at Southwestern Medical School Dallas, Texas. He has published and presented many papers on mental health and Islam. He is the founding chairman of 3 organizations:
Chairman Emeritus - MCC for human services North Dallas.
President Emeritus - IQRA peace initiative.
President Institute of Medieval and Post Medieval studies.

Dr. Samir Iqbal
Award-Winning Mentor, Innovator, Researcher, Teacher, and Thought Leader
Dr. Samir Iqbal is a Professor and Chair of the Electrical Engineering Department at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV), Texas, USA. Dr. Iqbal is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a Senior Member of IEEE. He has been a distinguished lecturer (DL) for IEEE-EMBS since 2016. Dr. Iqbal has published extensively in the areas of nano-bio interfaces at genes, proteins, and cellular levels, lab on a chip, cancer diagnostics using nanotechnology, applications of nanotextured materials in biosensing, and nanoscale devices for single-molecule interrogation / identification. He has also led work on developing high-speed imaging approaches and novel algorithms for single-cell analysis in real-time.
Shakeel Muhammad
Program Director
Shakeel Muhammad is an IT Leader with 24 years of experience in the IT industry. He has a Master's degree in Computer Science. Shakeel has worked in fortune 500 companies, including Citigroup, AT&T, and HP. Currently, he works as an IT Leader and helps companies with digital transformation. At STEMatters, Shakeel is responsible for running the programs that prepare students for national and international STEM competitions.
